| CO-MODERATOR LYONS: Thank you, Ambassador
Baas. Before we continue, I'd like to welcome Assemblywoman Sarah Reyes who's joining us
for a few minutes. Assemblywoman Reyes was elected to the Assembly in 1998 and Chair's the
Assembly Rural Caucus. She's a Fresno native. Sarah, thank you for coming. Would you like
to make a brief comment? ASSEMBLYWOMAN REYES: I'm a politician, of course I would. (Laughter) I just wanted to thank Secretary Lyons and Deputy Secretary Rominger for coming to Sacramento and addressing a lot of the issues that are going to be heard today. I want to say to everybody that this is of vital importance, the issues that are going to be talked about today in trade, are of vital importance to my district in the central valley and to the central San Joaquin Valley, the largest agricultural producer in the world. And so I look forward to working with all of you. I know there's some issues of concern in regards to safety and pest eradication, and pests in general, when it comes to trade. And I'm hopeful that we can come to some conclusions today as we move along in these discussions. |
