U.S.-Mexico Binational
Commission
Agriculture Working Group
The U.S.-Mexico Binational Commission (BNC) was established in 1981 as a forum for regular cabinet-level exchanges between the two countries on a wide range of issues important in U.S.-Mexican relations.
The U.S.-Mexico BNC has working groups on agriculture; border cooperation; business development, fisheries, and tourism; education and cultural affairs; energy; environment and natural resources; fiscal, financial, and customs issues; health; labor; legal affairs and anti-narcotic issues; migration and consular affairs; science and technology; trade and investment; and transportation.
Previous BNC meetings have improved trade cooperation and led to greater market access for some U.S. products such as the opening of the Mexican market to sweet cherries from Washington, Oregon, California, and most recently Idaho. Other agreements included Mexicos commitment to improve border inspection services for U.S. livestock and grains and progress toward opening the Mexican market for Arizona and Florida.
